Anxiety Disorder

Providing tools to manage worry, fear, and regain calm in everyday life.

Anxiety Disorder

Comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and personalized treatment plans for generalized anxiety, panic disorder, social anxiety, and phobias.

Approaches Used

  • Medication Management
  • CBT-informed
  • DBT Skills

What this often looks like

  • Your body is braced for something even when nothing is happening
  • You rehearse conversations for hours before and after they occur
  • Sleep comes late because the day replays itself the moment you lie down
  • You avoid situations quietly, and the list of avoided things keeps growing
  • Physical symptoms — chest tightness, nausea, a racing heart — with a clear medical work-up

What the first appointment covers

We map where the anxiety actually lives: generalised worry, panic attacks, social situations, health fears, or the aftermath of something that happened. These respond differently, so the distinction is not academic. We look at sleep, caffeine, alcohol and thyroid function as well, because each of them can manufacture anxiety on its own or make an existing anxiety unmanageable.

How it is treated here

Medication for anxiety is usually an antidepressant class used at anxiolytic doses, which sounds counter-intuitive and is the first thing I explain. It builds over weeks rather than working on the day. I am deliberately conservative with sedatives: they work immediately, and that is precisely why they tend to become the treatment rather than a bridge. Alongside medication, the work is behavioural — reducing avoidance, which is what keeps anxiety alive.

What to expect, and when

Expect little in the first two weeks, sometimes a slight increase in restlessness as the body adjusts, then a gradual settling between weeks four and eight. Judging a medication earlier than that is the most common reason people conclude that "nothing works" when the trial was simply too short.

Questions patients ask

Can anxiety be treated properly by video?

Yes. Psychiatric evaluation and medication management are conversation-based, and for anxiety specifically, attending from your own home removes a barrier rather than creating one: the waiting room is often the hardest part of the appointment.

Will I be put on a benzodiazepine?

Usually not as a long-term plan. They are effective and fast, and that is exactly the risk: tolerance builds, and the underlying anxiety is left untreated underneath. Where one is appropriate, the purpose and the exit are discussed from the start.

Do I need therapy as well as medication?

Often yes, and for some people therapy alone is the better answer. Medication lowers the volume; behavioural work is what changes the pattern. If that is what you need, I will say so plainly rather than prescribe around it.
