French-Speaking Psychiatrist in Connecticut
Psychiatric evaluation and medication management conducted in French, anywhere in Connecticut, by secure video. Adults 18 and over, same-week appointments, most commercial insurance accepted.
Why the language of the appointment matters clinically
Describing what is happening in your mind is difficult in your own language. In a second language it becomes approximate, and approximation is a clinical problem: the difference between feeling anxious and feeling on edge, between sad and empty, between a side effect you can live with and one you cannot, is exactly the information a prescriber works from.
People treated in a language they merely manage tend to under-report. They simplify, they leave out the parts that are hard to explain, and they say yes to a question they did not fully catch. The result is a treatment built on an incomplete account, and it is frequently why medication seems not to work.
Consulting in French is not a comfort. It is what allows the evaluation to be accurate.
Who this is for
Connecticut has long-established francophone communities: West African families across Hartford, Bridgeport, Waterbury and Danbury, Haitian communities along the coast and in the cities, Québécois and French households, students and researchers on short contracts. It also includes anyone who grew up in French and would rather not translate themselves during a psychiatric appointment.
How it works
Book in a few minutes
Booking is online through Grow Therapy, Headway or Hello Alma. Insurance is verified at booking. You can note that you want the appointment conducted in French.
The appointment is in French
The full evaluation and every follow-up can be conducted in French, or switch between French and English if that is more natural for you.
Prescriptions and follow-up
Prescriptions are sent electronically to the pharmacy of your choice anywhere in Connecticut, and follow-ups continue with the same prescriber.
Said plainly
Other French-speaking psychiatric clinicians practise in Connecticut, and if one of them suits you better, that is the right outcome. What is true is that they are few, that most of them practise in person in a specific town, and that this practice covers the entire state by video, in French, with appointments usually available the same week.
What is treated
Psychiatric evaluation and medication management for adults, in French or in English:
Where
Everywhere in Connecticut. Care is telehealth only; you must be physically located in Connecticut at the time of the appointment. There is no office to travel to, which is what makes a French-speaking prescriber reachable from a town that has none.

Are appointments really conducted in French, or only the booking?
The clinical appointment itself is conducted in French: the evaluation, the discussion of medication, and every follow-up. The booking platforms are in English, and that is the only part that is not.
Can I switch between French and English during the appointment?
Yes, and many people do. Some subjects come more easily in one language than the other, and there is no need to choose one for the whole appointment.
Do I need to live in a particular town?
No. Care is delivered by video across the whole of Connecticut, so where you live in the state makes no difference. You simply need to be physically in Connecticut at the time of the appointment.
Is care in French covered by insurance?
Yes. The language of the appointment does not change coverage. Insurance is billed through the Grow Therapy, Headway and Hello Alma platforms, which verify your plan when you book.
